How to change direct speech into indirect speech?
There are some rules to do that:
1. Indirect speech doesn’t put the words of the speaker in quotation marks.
2. Indirect always use the conjunction “that”. This conjunction is always used between reporting verb and reported speech. For example:
Direct speech: Jenny said, “I went to Bali yesterday”
Indirect speech: Jenny said that she had gone to Bali the previous day.
3. If the reporting verb is either present tense or future tense, the tense of the reported speech will not change. But, if the reporting verb is past tense, the tense of the reported speech will change. For example:
Direct speech: Jenny says, “I went to Bali yesterday”
Indirect speech: Jenny says that she went to Bali the previous day. (there’s no tense changing)
For example:

4. The pronoun will be changed. For example:

5. If there’s time signal mentioned in the reported speech it will be changed in indirect speech. The example of time changing: now into then, today into that day, yesterday into the previous day, and tomorrow into the next day. For example:

-Indirect speech for question sentences-
The rules of indirect speech for statement will still be used along with some additional rules below (for yes or no question):
1. The question mark will be removed.
2. In indirect speech, the question sentence will be expressed in positive form instead of interrogative form.

Direct speech: She said to me, "are you tired?"
Indirect speech: She asked me if I was tired.

Imperative sentence can express a request, an order, a suggestion, a prohibition, or an advice.
To change imperative direct speech into indirect speech, there are some certain verbs will be put in reported verb instead of said, they are request, order, suggest, forbid, advise or tell.
For example: Direct speech: The boss said to him “close the door!”
Indirect speech: the boss ordered him to close the door.
There are some things you should notice in changing imperative direct speech to indirect speech:
1. You should be able to identify whether the imperative sentence is a request, an order, a suggestion, a prohibition, or an advice.
2. Imperative indirect speech doesn’t use the conjunction “that” between reported verb and reported speech. It uses conjunction “to” instead of “that” because imperative sentence means you make someone does something as what you said.
